If you’ve been thinking about whitening your teeth, you’re not alone—many people want a brighter, more confident smile. One of the most popular in-office whitening treatments today is Zoom Whitening, and we’re proud to offer it right here at Midland Avenue Dental. But what exactly is Zoom? How does it work? And is it really better than over-the-counter options? Let’s break it down.
What Is Zoom Whitening?
Zoom Whitening is a professional teeth whitening treatment that uses a special light-activated gel to safely and effectively whiten your teeth in just one visit. It’s done right in the dental office, and most patients see noticeable results immediately—often up to 6 to 8 shades lighter after just one session.
How Does It Work?
Here’s what you can expect during a typical Zoom Whitening appointment:
Preparation – We’ll cover your lips and gums, leaving only your teeth exposed.
Application – A hydrogen peroxide-based whitening gel is applied to your teeth.
Light Activation – We use the Zoom LED light to activate the gel, breaking up stains and discoloration.
Repeat – The gel is applied in 3–4 sessions of 15 minutes each (total treatment time is about 45 minutes to 1 hour).
Aftercare – We’ll finish with a fluoride treatment to reduce sensitivity and protect your enamel.
Is Zoom Whitening Safe?
Yes—Zoom Whitening is clinically proven to be safe and effective when performed by a dental professional. Some patients may experience temporary tooth sensitivity, but it typically goes away within a day or two. We suggest you take 1 or 2 Advil before your reserved whitening appointment to help with post op sensitivity. We also suggest a thorough dental cleaning be completed no more than 3 weeks before your whitening treatment for optimal results.
How Long Do Results Last?
Results vary depending on your lifestyle and habits, but with good oral hygiene and occasional touch-ups, your Zoom results can last a year or more.
To keep your smile bright, we recommend:
Avoiding stain-causing foods and drinks (like coffee, red wine, tea)
Not smoking or using tobacco
Regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings
Zoom vs. Drugstore Whitening: What’s the Difference?
While drugstore strips and whitening toothpastes can offer mild results, Zoom is much faster, stronger, and longer-lasting. Since it’s done under the supervision of a dentist, it’s also safer—especially for people with sensitive teeth or existing dental work.
How Much Does Zoom Whitening Cost at Midland Avenue Dental?
The cost of Zoom Whitening is $500.00 for the in office treatment, and $100.00 for take home trays.
Just so you are aware, most dental insurance plans don’t cover cosmetic whitening.
